Dear Rob,

I’ve wanted to write to you for a long time.

I first discovered your astrology almost 30 years ago in my local newspaper, The Advocate. I remember—at least I think I do—the transition to Free Will Astrology. Your words affected me so deeply that I actually clipped and saved many of the columns because they seemed to describe parts of my inner life that I couldn’t yet name.

Life eventually became a roller coaster. There were long stretches when I stopped reading regularly, then I’d find my way back. A few years ago your emails disappeared from my inbox, and I assumed that chapter had ended.

Then, recently, one simply appeared again. I hadn’t resubscribed, but there it was.

This week’s horoscope stopped me:

“…If you would thaw and reclaim the neglected, untouched regions of your own imagination, you would become an even more formidable generator of focused creative power.”

I’ve been carrying a question very similar to that for a long time. I feel as though there are neglected regions of my imagination, but I don’t know how to reach them.

I’ve tried forcing inspiration. I’ve tried making space and waiting. I’ve tried silence. I’ve tried paying attention. Yet the thaw doesn’t come. It feels less like a frozen river waiting for spring and more like a landscape I can’t even locate.

I’m curious whether, in your own experience, “thawing” is something we can intentionally cultivate, or whether it’s something that arrives indirectly.

I know you probably receive many messages and may not have time to respond. Even if this simply joins the stream of correspondence you receive, I wanted to thank you. Your writing has been one of those rare threads that has woven in and out of my life for decades, always seeming to reappear when I most needed a different perspective.

With gratitude,

Melissa

Please keep doing what you are doing. Your writings are thought provoking, and may cause some to end their subscriptions. But I think it is because you are helping them to look deeper, and examine their thinking. This is a good thing, even if unsettling for the moment. Being challenged to look at a subject in a different way, or from another point of view, is expanding the mind. Thank you from me, and others who appreciate you.
