I love this piece. I've had disgruntled readers say I didn't cover enough about xyz in my books, and I'm thinking, "It's a series! Wait for it. I'll try to get there." This came through as I'm doing the edits for book three (my magical crew is in the Arctic) and I've been worried because it's IMPOSSIBLE to explain all the threats while also writing an entertaining book. So, thank you. I needed this today. xx
I am sharing your post because it needs so badly to be heard. The point that critical issues don't ALL need to be mentioned EVERY time is crucial. The possibility of such criticism can silence voices. I know it has silenced mine in the past. The world desperately needs to hear about all the issues you referenced and more. Thank you so much for your attention and focus on this. I look forward to your writing each week!
I love this! Selection and emphasis are two key concepts for good writing that I learned in grad school. Select the events, characters, and details that you chose to write about, and go all the way in.
I've been reading your work like religion for 30+ years now and you simply never go out of style. I light up every time I see your writing in print or post. The opening of this piece was again, superb and on par💫
Of all your posts, this one is my absolute favorite! When everyone chooses a focus then everything gets done. When everyone insists everyone else choose the same focu as them, resentment and confusion results.
Crows and mountains – yes. You write beautifully about the interconnected web and the attention and focus that bring us back into connection/coherence with it. Your content goes perfectly with this podcast on spiritual activism: https://spotify.link/lzjMBrR3EXb
Rob says, "The quote “It’s not possible to say EVERYTHING every time you say ANYTHING” also protects against a subtle form of ego inflation. The fantasy that one could ever speak for everything is the voice of the inflated savior or the anxious perfectionist." I would add to the latter two categories, "... or you have been raised to believe that your stuff matters more than other people's stuff and you throw fits and tear down if others don't make it so." The people who said the things at the top of Rob's piece today are exactly that. I am sick to death of this sort of selfish "it better be all about me" activism. It is why the opposition to Trumpian values cannot get any traction; it is why, shockingly, a lot of young liberals actually peeled off and went for RFKJr., before he dropped out. And then they didn't vote! You will get the country you deserve, "compassionate, activist, engaged" people, if you cannot suppresses your own self-aggrandizement (which is so Trumpian) and accept common cause and longterm alignment as the best it gets for now.
Brilliant. Just brilliant. I have those voices arguing in my head all the time .... "but what about?" That is the road to misery. Specificity is where it's at.
TRUTH: "Each of us is a cell in the planetary nervous system. We don’t all have to do everything. One person can tend bees. Another can free prisoners. Another can teach tenderness to those who forgot it was allowed. Another can write poems that remind leaders to be merciful." -Rob Breszny
Thanks Rob, thanks for being there all these years with endless wisdom, cheer, exuberance... your energy makes such an incredible difference to my life. Thanks for me being able to drink from your well.🙏❤️🇨🇦
Dear Rob, Thank-you for articulating this deep truth. You have a way with words and I will be snipping this whole section out and posting it as a reminder for those times and situations when I am at a loss for words. 🌱☀️🌿
“Attention is sacred. When you love one thing deeply—one forest, one injustice, one beloved body, one gorgeous bird—you’re not abandoning the rest of existence. You’re affecting the whole….”
Every week I take heart in reading your wisdom-- wisdom that awakens my own. Thank you! 💕

I love everything about this and it so needed saying. Our attention is all we really have. I love this permission to put it where it wants to be.

I love the section on the ectasy of focusing... particularly the part about believing we can or need to be all-inclusive. Thanks!
