As always, amazing horoscopes and more! The land stealing history lesson is so good. Timely, too. As a teacher, I worked with many immigrant/first generation students who were rightfully concerned about their futures. I always pointed out that someone literally drew a line in the sand and said, "Don't step over that line." I think a more important question is whether time actually began at the Big Bang. Much more interesting.
My two sisters and I are the owners of 30 acres and a crumbling, unlivable ranch house in western NM. It is what remains of huge tracts of homestead land that my ancestors settled, this house in particular built in 1898 by my great-grandparents. All of my family's holdings now and then are situated on land the Apache roamed, the territory they called home. A few years ago, I attended a conversation group between Indigenous Americans and European descendants. I learned so much about their experience, who they are today, and what they envision for tomorrow -- they want their children to have education and opportunities in our economy, but to have their way of life respected as they do. Indigenous people know they can participate in capitalism AND also be intentionally communal with the results of that participation. (We could learn from this; we have lost this understanding of our economic system, that it is an "us" thing.) Afterward, I met a man whose family also hailed from western NM, but his ancestors were Apache. I was in tears meeting him, and I said that my sisters and I always talk about trying to give at least those 30 acres back to the tribe. He reached out, patted my shoulder, and said, "We don't want the land back. It is yours for now. We just want you to understand what happened, and why, and help us to change direction with the wisdom." I am doing this with all my conscious ability.
Thank you for raising your eloquent and passionate voice Rob. I have been a fan of your writing since we were in the same poetry class in 1978. I am a huge fan today. Thanks for helping me and so many others get through these days of crisis. Your wisdom and compassion are a touchstone and a blessing.
Exceptional, concise, eye opening on some I knew and some i didn't ... Thank you !! Too bad there are some who will never open their eyes, hearts, doors, or anything else to this truth!! Migration is the path of all life ... Even the stationary tree !!! Welcome all movement to and for ALL ..
Thank you for acknowledging this history of land stealing. I find it unsettling that so many protesters come out for everything but Indigenous land rights without at least mentioning the OG people. This seems important if you’re going to bring up the history with rejecting kings (during the great land heist) while waving Mexican flags. Tea or kool aid or gate-or-raid? I simultaneously support these efforts of standing up for immigrants. I am rooting for the heart of America. I do adore any things about you. Of course I only see this as stark hypocrisy more recently after a lot of work on my perspectives and a deep dive into learning after an event changed me vibrationally. Plus why call a dictator a king? He is much worse. Funny he would defend the White House now yet pardon those goons from 2020. Anyway we all have hypocrisy which is fine if you’re not a tyrant hurting others detrimentally and possibly beyond repair. That’s far past hypocrisy and this second instalment of Cheeto Prez is the great land grab part 2. I’m glad people are rising even if the tagline is flawed, though catchy. May they all be safe!

You should ask the Tribe. No one individual Tribal Citizen speaks for everyone.

All this *&* Rebecca Solnit, too!
History tends to repeat itself so that we can learn what we ignored the 1st or 2nd or 3rd time around.
Thank you, Rob.
Thank you! I couldn’t agree more with the connections you draw.

Thank you. Your words are true, wise, deep, and weave us back together a little more.
