Thank you so much for this amazing and action-step filled post! Been a fan and reader for a long time… first time commenter. Thank you for all the light and engagement you bring to our shared world.
I came here to say pretty much the exact same thing! Reader since, oh, about 2006, but first time commenter. Rob, all your comments, quotes, and graphics perfectly sum it up. Thank you for this. LFG, people! <3
I am the third reader who's broken a long-time silence to thank you for the most vital and clear-headed post Ive seen on the election.
Your wise, to the point warnings came, for me, after a sleepless night. One of my sisters lives in New Zealand, has dual citizenship, and had just informed us she's voting for Trump! I couldn't believe it, and tossed and turned, dreamless, having no idea how to respond.
This morning? I read your column and forwarded it to her. Thank you for your deft words and my relief!
Rob, keep the truth coming. And thank you! This is not an election of "policy differences" between the two candidates. If we do our own due diligence and research, and get out an vote our conscience, the truth will win out.
Whew! I got shivers and chills reading your piece today! Yes... I have developed a fierce kind of love for this form of government...this democratic form of government. I feel powerful living literally in this "birthplace of freedom". Its more than a slogan that we use to attract tourists to Philadelphia. Nope...its a constant reminder that we are responsible for keeping this freedom moving forward and expanding freedom and rights to more citizens. "Not going back" ...I like the Harris campaign motto but I am also voting for her to make sure we know how far back we are going. Kind of like the premise of the Galieo quote in my horoscope. Going back but not going back. Yeah I am going back to the felt covered desks at Independence Hall so the people coming after me can have more freedom. Not sure I am explaining it well....but I am voting Harris. Yay.
I have always admired Rebecca Solnit and her writing. It’s true that a vote is not a Valentine, but it is a way of showing our love for this country, especially in this particular election. I am sorry about the ridiculous amount of hate mail that you received after sending out this newsletter. I deeply appreciate you and your work, and this newsletter shows us your love for our welfare and our beautiful diversity.
