We live on a planet that has evolved through volcanoes and miles-thick continents cracking up and crashing together. Those action were our creative, angry mother settling down to see us rise from the dust, to thrive, and destroy. Does Mother want us to destroy ourselves? No. She has more to teach us, yell at us to get up and stop being such lazy adolescents, and mature us in those ancient ways toward right action, creativity, and love. To me, this is hope. The pain, the sorrow, the despair are just elements that fire our evolution, along with humor, joy, and love which cool our brow. What choice do we have but to follow Mom's lead?
So many gems of great thought in this one in particular. Thank you! I am resisting despair each day but not close to healthy optimism just yet. I will read this one a few more times and definitely share with others.
Rob, Thank you for sharing Joan Westenberg’s essay. It’s just what I needed to read. Now that I am done ruminating on the reality of our current state and allowing myself to wallow and ruminate for a short time period, this essay is brilliantly timed to fuel my spirit forward. And I’m sure it’s resonating with so many others as well. Every piece of the divine puzzle seems to come as we need it, thank you universe. And as ever, thank you Rob for navigating us forward.
Working on my rebellious optimism. Do you know the work of Bayo Akomolafe? His language is different, less accessible (to this mind anyway) but I think you two share some important sensibilities. Many thanks for the good work you do.
The things you shared about hope inspired me to dust off my pronoia book…. Which is both overwhelming and beautiful cacophony.
I lead a brief virtual guided meditation on Thursdays at the clinic I work at, usually attended by staff and my wife. This past Thursday, I was browsing the book for inspiration, because I never know what the hell I’m gonna say 10 minutes before start time. I came across this https://freewillastrology.com/beauty/archives/121/i-me-wed
I confess, I did not frame it as a wedding to self, but I did give you credit, shared this link, and tell people that’s what it was intended to be.
One person printed out copies to read with their children later that night.
my wife told me she cried.
Another is buying your book
and another person said they were deeply moved by it.
So, I really thought I ought to share this feedback with you.

Leslie Thanks for introducing Bayo Akomolafe, looking his works up too.
