Thank you, thank you, thank you for this, dear Rob.

A lot of men have no understanding of the holding in Dobbs, and, like Alito, they invalidate everything else women have to say on the subject.

The fact remains that men can't get pregnant or give birth. Nor do they suffer from the daily curse of misogyny. And without that lived experience, they can't understand.

I have been in pretty severe depression since the Dobbs decision came down, and I know that millions of women like me feel the same. We're in flat despair for ourselves, our daughters, our sisters and all women. For me, this despair comes despite being on vacation and being on antidepressants. Things were bad enough with the political capture by the right wing, mass shootings and environmental destruction; for millions of women, the national situation now feels utterly catastrophic. This is indeed our 9/11.

The thing most men can't comprehend is that the Dobbs decision, written by misogynists, is literally a "body blow" to women. I'm 67 and came to sexual maturity not long after the Pill freed us from sexual slavery. All my life I've been handled, teased, hurt, dismissed, overlooked and objectified by men. I've had to fight for every position I've held and to get half the respect men do and less pay for the same work. So the Dobbs decision isn't just about the women losing the right to decide how to manage our bodies and their lives; it's about trying to keep from going under in the sucky, mucky, gucky river of misogyny.

For what it's worth... The right to abortion is a circumstantial human right. It should include the understanding that by doing so life of some kind is being terminated unnaturally. It should not be seen as a procedure that is absolutely without any ramifications at all - to be indulged in without a second thought. It is not as if one is plucking a fruit from a tree, the tree not minding it as it has multiple other fruits and its fruit was made for consumption. A fetus does not come into existence to be terminated unnaturally. But yes, there are circumstances that each individual has to weigh carefully and sometimes an abortion may feel like the most appropriate alternative to an unplanned pregnancy.

And even though each individual has the right to decide what's the best for them, I feel in this particular situation, no matter how much time passes, there may always linger a certain remorse about decisions taken. Although, if one had to go back in time, the same decision would be taken because the circumstances demanded it and not because it is a fundamental human right.

As if I could possibly love you more, Rob. Thank you for compiling this, and for understanding that abortion is EVERYONE's issue. I too, benefited from abortion when I was young, and this enabled me to consciously decide to become a mother in a manner befitting the gravity of the title: present, grounded, supported, calm, and available at every step of my son's development.

The best coverage on this horrendous decision. I am 74 year old female and although I obviously don’t worry that I personally cannot get an abortion I am so afraid for all the young woman in our country. My biggest concern is that this is just the beginning of the removal of other rights. I used to believe we had evolved but am now sure it is all moving the other way

Thank you for writing such a cogent, healthy, panoptic essay on the recent decision of the SCOTUS to overturn Roe v Wade.

I was coming of age when the decision was put into law.

Both my sisters were free to intelligently choose for themselves whether to bring a child into the world.

They are professional, educated women whose lives would be very different if they had been forced to carry and give birth. The men involved would not have had the trajectory of their lives altered.

I cannot expressed how angry and humiliating this decision has left me.

Wicked pissed,

I asked my Son where are all the young people are whose lives will be affected by this and why are they not doing more to engage in our democracy?

His answer, “they’re working to pay $ 2000 a month rent.”

Love Lance Wilburn’s insight “ This is not about abortion. Don't fool yourself.”

I was with two males when I was 15-20 and both of them got me pregnant after stating "I know when to pull out". What a ridiculous lie I believed and chose murdering fetuses at that point. Now I see it all as the reality across the Globe. Indeed all female birth control wreaks havoc on the body and the males do not like condoms so....we get what we have here. No one is utilizing abstinence for free, practically no one. If we as humans are this stupid and ignorant, then of course murder is the only choice. Yes I was stupid and ignorant and nothing changes that there would be adults here had I not chosen death over abstinence.
